FJ Families,
That is it! We are done with the 5th grade, and we did it VIRTUALLY. Let me tell you, that is a serious accomplishment. I feel particularly proud of our group because we really did foster some strong relationships. That is challenging to do through a computer, but we did it! We laughed. A LOT! We did experiments. We danced. A LOT! Just ask about all of the math movements. Madonna's vogue has nothing on our coordinate grid and line dances. Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and encouragement throughout this time. We did it together, and this year, much more than any other, we embodied the phrase "It takes a village." Also, a big thank you for your end of year gifts and expressions of gratitude. It means so much. Please know that once an FJ, forever an FJ. Really. I still speak with many of my past students. I love to get periodic emails from them. They can reach out if they need anything and we are always happy to help. See the reminders below for important end of year information. With SO MUCH LOVE, Ms. Ferguson MOVING ON CEREMONY PICTURES FOUND HERE. FJ Families,
SAVE THE DATE! 5/27 8:30a will be FJ Moving On Ceremony. Be watching for details. I hope you had a great week. We had a lot of time to do collaborative projects. Scholars reported having fun! Yes, "fun". That is pretty awesome because I tell them all the time that "we all win when we learn" and how we play "learning games, not winning games" but they rarely buy it:) We have a few weeks left to school, but as I've told our team, we keep on working until the end. Otherwise, as one scholar put it, "What is the point in staying in school if you don't do any learning?" I couldn't have said it better myself! This week is GMAS (Georgia Milestones) which means we are all hands on deck. Per FAVE communication, scholars will engage in asynchronous work. Mr. Johnson will provide scholars with various assignments to facilitate Exhibition, the 5th grade final IB research and presentation project. Should scholars finish their Exhibition assignment for the day, I have listed a number of math/science activities for them to complete. Please be watching your email for updates about end of year celebrations, testing, etc. Our room parent (my room parent from last year) Natalie Jo Williams will also be sending periodic updates. Please be sure to check them. Also remember to check Mr. Johnson's website for ELA/Social Studies news. Math:

Are you interested in what GMAS looks like? Check out the digital platform or you can review the Grade 5 EOG (End of Grade) Review. FJ Families, Guess what is happening tomorrow? LOL. Do you know that cracks me up every year?! My husband...not so much. His loss:)
VERY IMPORTANT URGENT INFO NEEDED: Please complete the following survey so I may connect with Renfroe about the 6th grade tour. We are quickly approaching the end of the school year. YAY! I'm so grateful for your help as we support your scholars. I'm a little sad that I'm only now getting to see more of their personality, but that hasn't stopped us from building a relationship! I actually still speak with many of my past scholars regularly. Some are in the military, nurses, doctors, PARENTS! My class from last year constantly sends soccer, gymnastic, broken toe updates! That is to say, I hope (though our time together was brief) that we remain a FJ Crew for a long time to come. Please be watching your email for updates about end of year celebrations, testing, etc. Just a quick update: All teachers will be helping with GMAS (Georgia Milestones) testing. This means that scholars will have asynchronous work during testing days. Fifth graders are working on their final IB project called Exhibition. They will likely have some reflection, exhibition, and year end wrap up activities to do. Due to GMAS protocol, they will not likely have any math work specifically. FJ Families,
Whoa! What a soggy Saturday! While our soccer games were cancelled, I was very appreciative of a slow moving day. I caught up on a few of my favorite shows from the week. I made one of my children's favorite breakfasts, and I just chilled out for a minute. I hope that you have an equally restful day. At least none of us have to water plants today! This week we had a blast doing science experiments. Be sure to check out the supplies needed for this week below. There is also information about yearbooks. FJ Families, YAY! We made it through another new week of something:) Your scholars have been great. I'm starting to see personalities peek through. I'm very grateful to returning FJ Crew members for their willingness to jump in and support new FJ Crew members as they navigate a new teacher. You will likely hear me joke with the class about being "basically middle schoolers". But it is no joke, it is true! Can you believe it? Another year in the books - and what a year it has been! I know that we are going to continue building the skills that will set us up for success at Renfroe and beyond:) SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: We will be administering the Milestone End of Grade (GMAS) during the week of May 10-14. You received a survey in Infinite Campus asking if you would like for your student to come to the building to take the assessment in the afternoon that week. If you did not respond to the survey and would like for your student to take the test, please email Ms. Hanson at [email protected] and let her know. If you have any questions, you can also email her. THIS WEEK'S LEARNING: See the Weekly Learning Plan below. Welcome to 5th grade with THE FJ CREW!
We are delighted to be your child’s virtual teacher beginning Monday, April 12th. This email contains important information to prepare your family for the continued virtual environment. Please read carefully and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. Below are some nuts and bolts about our class once we are together, but some main items are listed below. Be sure to read this thoroughly as the information is very important. 1. Rosters: You may be wondering about rosters. Unfortunately the school does not permit roster distribution. 2. FJ CREW / Schedule: Mr. Eddie Johnson and I will be teaming up - so Welcome to the FJs (Ferguson-Johnson). I will teach Math and Science. He will teach ELA and Social Studies. Therefore, our schedule is going be split right down the middle - students will spend 90 minutes with each of us. We have inserted a 5 minute transition time (for bathroom, snack, water) just as we would do in school. There will also be different activities during the time with each teacher. The schedule will mirror the in-person schedule as is as follows:
3. Bookmark this webpage. I'll use it to post our class weekly newsletter for our homeroom time as well as Math and Science information. You can find it at https://msmferguson.weebly.com/ . You can also get there from the FAVE staff directory. Mr. Johnson's webpage is http://fave5thgradeallstars.weebly.com/. You can explore our class pages to learn about more about us and about the work our class has been doing since January. It will also give you an idea of how our classes are structured. 4. Getting to know each other: As I'm sure you're aware, it will take a little time for us all to get used to each other. Please extend the process some grace as we begin to build our community. I promise that we have spoken with original homeroom teachers and they will bring us up to speed. 5. Expectations: Expect to reset expectations. This means that we may have different agreements than those students may have had with their previous teacher. But that is ok! I'm sure each student will bring details of their experience that has shaped their perspective (see what I did there IB learners!) FAQs
Best, Ms. Ferguson & Mr. Johnson FJ Families, Whoa! That thunderstorm was crazy yesterday! The class had a long conversation about it. One friend's dog joined them in bed. I didn't have a scared puppy, but I did have a full bed! Both kids appeared and well...very little AND very uncomfortable sleep was had. Either way, I am excited and hopeful for a great weather weekend! This week I realized that we have become a little community. Personalities (and little jokes) are more common and it makes the days brighter, even when it rains:) THIS WEEK'S LEARNING: See the Weekly Learning Plan below. FJ Families, Happy FriYAY! Another sunny day in the books. I hope you're enjoying the weather, sunshine, and blooming flowers. I am noticing more buds coming up - my tulips, hyacinths, hydrangeas, crocuses, irises, and even my hostas. I'm really excited for the tulips. I planted over 100 bulbs in the fall so I'm ready to reap the benefits of my labor! THIS WEEK'S LEARNING: See the Weekly Learning Plan below. FJ Families, Happy Friday! I'm so glad to see the sun shining. I appreciate the warmer weather, now I just have to get myself from in front of a computer (or the stove, or the washer) and get outside! I hope these warmer days have brought you joy. This week we had a lot of great conversations, about responsibility, procrastination, and owning our own learning. We also spoke about advocating for our learning by being a communicator and a risk-taker. We are growing more and more each day, and I thank you for the ways you help your scholar develop in these areas. They are going to be fully prepared for middle school! Renfroe, watch out. I actually got a text from a former scholar today to show me their Renfroe report card. I was told to look specifically at the math score. It warmed my heart that 1) our connection is still strong and 2) that she is doing well. It takes a village! REPORT CARDS were available Thursday via Infinite Campus. Mr. Johnson and I collaborated with your scholar's original homeroom teachers to complete grades. THIS WEEK'S LEARNING: See the Weekly Learning Plan below. FJ Families, Happy rainy Monday! I hope that you were able to enjoy yesterday's great weather. Though I probably should have gone outside, we decided to get some spring cleaning done. Not my favorite activity, but definitely my favorite result! Now our deck is clean and ready to soak up the great weather coming this week. REPORT CARDS are available Thursday via Infinite Campus.
