FJ Families, Can you believe that we are already into February?! I'm grateful for the few warm days we had this week and I am so ready for spring. I desperately need to clean up my garden to make room for the growing tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils. How fitting that I'm watching my flowers grow as I'm already seeing the growth in your scholars. They are participating more, explaining more, laughing more, and learning more. I'm pleased to be on this journey with them. THIS WEEK'S LEARNING: See the Weekly Learning Plan below. Please help your scholar review Google Classroom to ensure all assignments have been submitted. They are doing well but could always use the extra review. Also remember to check Mr. Johnson's website for ELA/Social Studies news. Math:

FJ Crew, YAY! We made it. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all endured a few bumps here and there this week. Your scholars did an awesome job being kind and understanding. They have already started to become a little community. We also established our working norms and methods for exchanging information in this virtual platform. We also discussed the importance of completing all assignments, of following all directions, and that double-checking files is critical (and a life skill - job/college/scholarship applications;) It may be time to dig out that FAVE planner that was provided at the beginning of the year to help scholars keep track of assignments. I will discuss how to use a planner with them on Monday. Just for clarification, here are the schedules once more. Notice the upper right hand corner to know if it is Ferguson's homeroom or Johnson's homeroom schedule. If your scholar receives any services (LINKS, EIP, Speech, etc) that specific teacher may insert location/assignment directions that are individualized. Those details are typically communicated to the scholar directly and are inserted into their Google Classroom. Also remember to check Mr. Johnson's website for ELA/Social Studies news. QUICK REMINDERS:
Welcome to 5th grade with me, Ms. Ferguson! I am delighted to be your child’s virtual teacher beginning Tuesday, January 19th. This email contains important information to prepare your family for the continued virtual environment. Please read carefully and do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. Students: While I may not be your original teacher, I promise to put forth my very best effort to get to know you as a person and as a student. Families: We've totally got this! You may be wondering a little about me (which you can find in the ABOUT section), but I suppose your first question is about my experience with 5th grade. Well, you're in luck because for the past 2 school years I taught 5th grade at FAVE. This year I am the Math Support and MTSS Coordinator, which basically means that I help support the grown ups that support the students. I will review some nuts and bolts about our class once we are together, but some main items are listed below. Be sure to read this thoroughly as the information is very important. 1. Rosters: You may be wondering about rosters. Unfortunately the school does not permit roster distribution. 2. FJ CREW / Schedule: Because we will still retain responsibilities of our original school roles, Mr. Eddie Johnson and I will be teaming up - so Welcome to the FJs (Ferguson-Johnson). I will teach Math and Science. He will teach ELA and Social Studies. Therefore, our schedule is going be split right down the middle - students will spend 90 minutes with each of us. We have inserted a 5 minute transition time (for bathroom, snack, water) just as we would do in school. There will also be different activities during the time with each teacher. The schedule will mirror the in-person schedule as is as follows:
3. Bookmark this webpage. I'll use it to post our class weekly newsletter for our homeroom time as well as Math and Science information. You can find it at https://msmferguson.weebly.com/ . You can also get there from the FAVE staff directory. Mr. Johnson's webpage is http://fave5thgradeallstars.weebly.com/.
4. Getting to know each other: As I'm sure you're aware, it will take a little time for us all to get used to each other. Please extend the process some grace as we begin to build our community. I promise that I have spoken with homeroom teachers and they will bring me up to speed. 5. Expectations: Expect to reset expectations. This means that we may have different agreements than those students may have had with their previous teacher. But that is ok! I'm sure each student will bring details of their experience that has shaped their perspective (see what I did there IB learners!) 6. Meet and Greet: I will host some small meet-and-greet sessions throughout the next few weeks. Please watch for an email with details coming soon. FAQs
What now? This weekend, I'm going to ask you to do some IB work with your scholar.
I cannot wait to learn more about your children. I know I've given you a lot to think about, but it is going to be great! I can feel it in my bones. Best, Ms. Ferguson |
