Welcome to 5th grade with THE FJ CREW!
We are delighted to be your child’s virtual teacher beginning Monday, April 12th. This email contains important information to prepare your family for the continued virtual environment. Please read carefully and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. Below are some nuts and bolts about our class once we are together, but some main items are listed below. Be sure to read this thoroughly as the information is very important. 1. Rosters: You may be wondering about rosters. Unfortunately the school does not permit roster distribution. 2. FJ CREW / Schedule: Mr. Eddie Johnson and I will be teaming up - so Welcome to the FJs (Ferguson-Johnson). I will teach Math and Science. He will teach ELA and Social Studies. Therefore, our schedule is going be split right down the middle - students will spend 90 minutes with each of us. We have inserted a 5 minute transition time (for bathroom, snack, water) just as we would do in school. There will also be different activities during the time with each teacher. The schedule will mirror the in-person schedule as is as follows:
3. Bookmark this webpage. I'll use it to post our class weekly newsletter for our homeroom time as well as Math and Science information. You can find it at https://msmferguson.weebly.com/ . You can also get there from the FAVE staff directory. Mr. Johnson's webpage is http://fave5thgradeallstars.weebly.com/. You can explore our class pages to learn about more about us and about the work our class has been doing since January. It will also give you an idea of how our classes are structured. 4. Getting to know each other: As I'm sure you're aware, it will take a little time for us all to get used to each other. Please extend the process some grace as we begin to build our community. I promise that we have spoken with original homeroom teachers and they will bring us up to speed. 5. Expectations: Expect to reset expectations. This means that we may have different agreements than those students may have had with their previous teacher. But that is ok! I'm sure each student will bring details of their experience that has shaped their perspective (see what I did there IB learners!) FAQs
Best, Ms. Ferguson & Mr. Johnson

FJ Families, Whoa! That thunderstorm was crazy yesterday! The class had a long conversation about it. One friend's dog joined them in bed. I didn't have a scared puppy, but I did have a full bed! Both kids appeared and well...very little AND very uncomfortable sleep was had. Either way, I am excited and hopeful for a great weather weekend! This week I realized that we have become a little community. Personalities (and little jokes) are more common and it makes the days brighter, even when it rains:) THIS WEEK'S LEARNING: See the Weekly Learning Plan below. Please utilize the CLASSWORK tab and then choose the small clipboard at the top that says VIEW MY WORK to review class assignments and grades. Here is a short tutorial from Ms. C. Smith. Also remember to check Mr. Johnson's website for ELA/Social Studies news. Math:

FJ Families, Happy FriYAY! Another sunny day in the books. I hope you're enjoying the weather, sunshine, and blooming flowers. I am noticing more buds coming up - my tulips, hyacinths, hydrangeas, crocuses, irises, and even my hostas. I'm really excited for the tulips. I planted over 100 bulbs in the fall so I'm ready to reap the benefits of my labor! THIS WEEK'S LEARNING: See the Weekly Learning Plan below. FJ Families, Happy Friday! I'm so glad to see the sun shining. I appreciate the warmer weather, now I just have to get myself from in front of a computer (or the stove, or the washer) and get outside! I hope these warmer days have brought you joy. This week we had a lot of great conversations, about responsibility, procrastination, and owning our own learning. We also spoke about advocating for our learning by being a communicator and a risk-taker. We are growing more and more each day, and I thank you for the ways you help your scholar develop in these areas. They are going to be fully prepared for middle school! Renfroe, watch out. I actually got a text from a former scholar today to show me their Renfroe report card. I was told to look specifically at the math score. It warmed my heart that 1) our connection is still strong and 2) that she is doing well. It takes a village! REPORT CARDS were available Thursday via Infinite Campus. Mr. Johnson and I collaborated with your scholar's original homeroom teachers to complete grades. THIS WEEK'S LEARNING: See the Weekly Learning Plan below. Please help your scholar review Google Classroom to ensure all assignments have been submitted. FJ Families, Happy rainy Monday! I hope that you were able to enjoy yesterday's great weather. Though I probably should have gone outside, we decided to get some spring cleaning done. Not my favorite activity, but definitely my favorite result! Now our deck is clean and ready to soak up the great weather coming this week. REPORT CARDS are available Thursday via Infinite Campus.
